How we check templates

Every template on Ultimate Web Templates goes through the same checks before it is listed. We last ran them on October 27, 2026.

1. The license, from the source

We read the license file in the template's own source repository (for example the LICENSE file on GitHub), or the maker's official license page. We record the license name and the copyright line, and we summarize what it means for you: commercial use, client work, changes, and whether a visible credit is required. We link to the full license text. If we cannot find a clear license, we do not list the template.

2. Facts from the code

The framework (for example Bootstrap 5 or Tailwind CSS), the number of HTML pages and the date the code was last updated come from the template's files and its repository history. "Last updated" means the last change to the source code, not the last time we looked.

3. Our own screenshots

We open each template's official demo, or the template files themselves, and take our own desktop and phone screenshots at the same sizes, so you can compare them fairly.

4. Live previews only when the license allows

Templates under the MIT license allow anyone to copy and share the code as long as the license text comes along, so we host a copy of those templates for live previews and the "make it yours" customizer, with the original LICENSE file included and the maker credited. Templates whose license does not allow redistribution, such as StyleShout's, and themes that need a build tool (Hugo, Jekyll, Astro and others) link to the maker's own demo and download page.

Our own templates

The Ultimate Originals are designed and built by us. Their sample names, prices and addresses are made up to show where your details go, and they ship with no photos. They are MIT licensed.

5. Our own descriptions

We write every description after opening the template, and we say who it suits. When a template was not built for a kind of site but adapts well, we label it "adapts well".

What we do not do

  • We do not invent ratings, download counts or reviews.
  • We do not take money from template makers to be listed or ranked.
  • We do not give legal advice. The license file that comes with a template is what counts.

Corrections

Licenses and files change. If you see something out of date, tell us and we will check it again.
