Hugo theme by Zerostatic

Whisper

A minimal documentation theme for Hugo: a quiet landing page, a sidebar of docs and code blocks, nothing extra.

The license in plain words

Use it for anything, including paid client work, change it however you like and even share your changed copy. The one rule: keep the copyright notice and license text with the code (for example the LICENSE file). You do not have to show a credit on the page.

  • Commercial and client sitesYes
  • Change the code and designYes
  • Visible credit requiredNo
  • Keep the license text in the filesYes

Checked on October 29, 2026 from the LICENSE file in the source repository (Copyright (c) Robert Austin). Full text: MIT License. The license file that comes with the template is what counts. This is not legal advice.

Good to know: Needs Hugo to build.

How to use it

This is a Hugo theme, so it is not a single HTML file: you write pages in Markdown and Hugo builds the site. It needs the Hugo program on your computer, or a host that builds it for you.

  1. Start from the theme's guide. Open the GitHub repository and follow its install steps; most themes offer a starter you can copy in one click.
  2. Write your pages in Markdown. Each post or page is a simple text file.
  3. Publish. Free hosts like GitHub Pages, Netlify and Cloudflare Pages can build Hugo sites automatically when you push changes.
  4. Keep the license. Leave the LICENSE file in the theme folder.

Prefer plain HTML with no build step? Try our originals or a plain HTML template.
